Here
are but a few of the fantastic things that people say!
We hope that this gives you an insight into the culture and
‘feel’ of our school.
What
parents have said:
“I wanted to let you know how happy I am with
the decision I made to move……and enrol her at your school.
Year six and seven have been exceptional years for my daughter. In Year six (teacher)………did more than expected
to help …academically and personally.
This year, the child or young woman, who now lives with me
is not the same as the one I had at the beginning of the year. Under (year 7 teacher)……’s firm, kind and consistent leadership,
she has developed academically, personally and morally. She is a confident, outspoken and self-assured
person who is ready to take on the challenges of high school and,
indeed, the world. Your
Year 7 teacher has been responsible for bringing out the absolute
best in my daughter, and for showing her how to be proud of
herself, to set goals and reach them, to choose the right, to contribute
to her community, to stand up for what she believes in and most
of all to understand her potential and aim to reach it.” (e-mail to the principal)
“ At the end of this school year it is time
to reflect on the years that our son …… has attended Indooroopilly
State School. He has now completed his primary education
and as he looks forward to his high school years, we know that
he has received a very good education.
We know that teaching children can be both a rewarding and
sometimes frustrating task, yet all the staff has shown perseverance
and dedication towards our son. Whenever we have needed to talk to teachers
at the school we have been listened to and everyone has shown
us respect and understanding.
We would like to thank every staff member for their high
level of professionalism.” (Letter from parent to the principal)
Í would just like to say thankyou for the
great six years, each one of my three children have had at Indooroopilly
State School. They have certainly had the best education
they could have had before starting at their high schools. The teachers were just delightful, the support
excellent and other activities such as debating, music and choir
etc superb! Thank you
again for giving all three of them a great start to life with lovely
friends. The school will always be part of my family.”
(Letter from parent to the principal)
Swim-a-thon I was delighted to read that the funds raised this year from the
swim-a-thon will not be used in part to buy prizes for the fundraisers. This generation is particularly privileged
and they need to learn to give selflessly and unselfishly. So, I thank you wholeheartedly for making this
change.” (e-mail from parent to the principal)

What
students have said:
Indooroopilly
had been a great school and I will sorely miss not only the teahers
and students, but also surprisingly, the learning. For the seven
years that I was at Indooroopilly I learnt more than I ever expected.
From the teachers to the extra-curriculr acxtivities all have been
excellent experiences at this fine education facility I am proud,
to call my old primary school.
There
are many things that are great about Indooroopilly. Many things
that put it above others. One in particular is the inter/intra-school
sports. We have many options for intra-school sports, such a martial
arts, soccer, tower ball and even yoga. In the inter-school sports
we have soccer, AFL, water polo, netball, basketball, touch football,
softball and cricket. These activities are not only great physical
excercise, but they have helped many students grow closer to their
fellow classmates. Indooroopilly has helped me make lifelong
friends and has taught me lifelong lessons." (Daniel -
School Captain)
Principal Abseils Faster than Lightening!
Indooroopilly State School principal, Mrs
Hilary Backus, became a blur when she broke the school abseiling
record down the 6m tower on the Year 6 Kindilan Camp prior to the
school holidays. Humbly, Mrs Backus waited till last for her
turn in the activity. Students
watched amazed as she quickly lowered herself into the ‘L” position. This was all despite the fact that she hadn’t
participated in the day before’s lesson. One student commented, “We knew she was once a PE teacher but we
didn’t know she was that athletic.”
“Not many principals try this activity and
those who do are cautious. Mrs
Backus was a surprising exception!” the instructor exclaimed. When Mrs Backus arrive back at school she set off for a holiday
skiing trip to continue her physical activity! (News Report from
Stephen -Year 6 student.)
What High
Schools have said:
"Indooroopilly State School students stand out! They are SO
well prepared for high school. Their Year 7 specialisation programme
I think makes a big difference. In Year 8 you can pick out the
ISS students. This is not just academically, in the classroom,
but they are also great kids." (comments from a Year 8 teacher
at a Brisbane private school)
