The entry age for children in Queensland schools changed in 2007 with the introduction of the voluntary Preparatory Year. Students must turn 5 before June 30 on the year of entry to the Prep Year.

Students going into the compulory phase of schooling in Year 1 will need to have turned 6 before June 30.
